What happens at the West Ham United Learning Zone?

about us

The West Ham United Learning Zone is part of a  national DfE initiative called Playing for Success (PfS). Based in West Ham United Football Club, in the London Borough of Newham. It is one of six projects in Newham's Post 16 & Out of School Learning, Children and Young People's Services.

The Every Child Matters agenda is central to our work and the provision offered is underpinned by all of the five outcomes, but most notably 'Enjoy & Achieve'. Our intention is to create a relaxed but hardworking atmosphere in the centre, where pupils feel comfortable, safe and valued.

By enhancing pupils self-esteem and improving their attitudes to learning, school and education, we aim to increase motivation and assist in the development of effective, independent learners.

What we aim to achieve...

The PfS initiative aims to raise children's literacy and numeracy levels using state of the art IT equipment and the about usinspirational surroundings of a sporting venue. The Centre's use the environment and medium of sports to help motivate pupils identified by their schools, as being in need of a boost to help them get back up to speed in the core subjects and improve their self esteem and confidence.

Children are invited to the study centre where they take part in a variety of fun and educational activities. Centre's deliver their core delivery after school hours, and are able to create individually catered projects during day time, at the weekend and in the holidays.
