This month the West Ham United Learning Zone launched its Young Apprentice Project. This project targets boys in the borough’s primary schools and challenges them to be advertising executives, promoting a product from the clever people at Concentrate© through the mediums of television, radio and print.
Today saw us introduce the concepts of logos and slogans to our aspiring apprentices. The boys from Carpenters showed a fantastic knowledge of the logos and slogans for a whole host of companies, from fast food retailers to car manufacturers. Top of the class in our “Learning Zone Logo Quiz” were the teachers of Carpenters Primary School who proved a competitive bunch and wowed us all with their unrivalled knowledge of advertising slogans.
The coming weeks will see us evaluate a host of radio and television adverts identifying what makes them catchy and memorable as well as what makes some just plain boring and downright forgettable. It is clear to see that thus far the boys are having an enjoyable time focusing on promoting their products and turning them into the next ‘playground must have’. Our junior apprentices showed great skill and I am very much looking forward to the following sessions.
At the end of the project our apprentices will pitch their ideas to a select group of individuals who will form our panel of ‘experts’. Mark Champkins, inventor and creator of Concentrate© products, found fame and fortune on the BBC’s Dragon’s Den and will feature on our judging panel.
