Centre Manager: Pia Tanneraho

Pia has been involved with Playing for Success since 2005 when she was first employed as the Assistant Coordinator at the West Ham United Learning Zone and ELG Interface before moving on to manage the East London Gymnastics PfS centre full time. Pia transferred back to the Learning Zone in April 2010 to manage the Centre and to oversee OfS Newham provision. With woking experience from Primary and Secondary schools as well as FE and Youth Work, Pia has developed the curriculum in the Centres substantially since his arrival and has introduced a number of highly successful new initiatives, including foreign language provision, Performing for Arts Holiday School Programm and has played a key role in the development of PfS Newham NOCN Accredited Volunteer Mentoring Project. Pia is also a trained Qritical Friend supporting other PfS centres in London and South East and Newham Schools with their QiSS (Quality in Study Support) recognistion processes.

 

Lead Centre Teacher: Matilde Penalver

Matilde has been part of the team since late 2008, with prior experience as a Primary School teacher, she delivers many of our Playing for Success sessions both at WHU LEarning Zone and at ELG Interface PfS Centres. Matilde has played an important part in developing PfS Curriculum and in particular our Spanish language curriculum at ELG Interface. Matilde has developed storing partnerships with our local schools and is a lead practitioner of our teaching team.

Lead Centre Assistant: Nadirah Khan

 

Nadirah supports various projects in the Centre including all the outreach provision. She is also a direct support for all new volunteers with their Open College Network Diploma in Introduction to Mentoring. Nadirah started work in Playing for Success in 2004 as a volunteer before completing her OCN in Mentoring. Whilst studying Law at university Nadirah worked as a part time centre assistant at the Centre before taking up the role full time in early 2009. Her commitment and enthusiasm for the development of the centre, our curriculum and ethos has been tiredless and exemplary. Recently Nadirah has played a key role in the development of our highly successfull boys achievement project; Junior Apprentice helping to develop the Centre's daytime provision and working closely together with Schools Advisory team in ensuring the right schools and target groups get the opportunity to attend.

Volunteer Mentor Coordinator: Baber Hussain

                          Baber began work to work at the Centre back in 2004 initially as a volunteer then as a part-time Centre mentor whilst studying at university. In 2008 Baber accepted a role coordinating our volunteer mentor programme and our Open College Network L3 Qualification in Introduction to Mentoring Skills. Baber is proving himself highly capable in this role and has helped developed a strong recruitment programme for the Centre. Many of our Volunteers now progress into full time employment as Teaching Assistants or progress to study PGCEs.

Our Mentor & Volunteer Team:

We have a bank of over 15 paid sessional Classroom Assistants who work as Mentors. We recruit volunteers from local colleges and universities and the wider community in return for the opportunity to gain an Open College Network accreditation in ' Introduction to Mentoring Skills' at level three. Volunteers upon completion of a successful OCN submission can apply for a paid mentor position.

WHULZ & Curwen PfS pupils in conjunction with work at school made at Least 2 levels of progress in their learning from KS1 to KS2 in 2008/09
